Resident Retention: PET-ICULARLY Interesting
PET-ICULARLY INTERESTINGIt’s estimated that Americans will spend $41 billion this year on their pets – more than double the amount from ten years ago. And, if you can believe it, about $3 billion of that will be on grooming products and boarding services.
According to a survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, 63% of American households have a pet. That’s nearly two out of every three households, and that number has gone up 13% in the last nine years.
This phenomenon, the record amount of money Americans spend on pets, merited a recent cover story in Business Week (August 6, 2007).
Another theory on the increase in pets is due to the isolation people feel by having most of their human interaction through email, instant messaging, the Internet, and working from home. The more we lose human contact, the more people crave contact with their pets.
Check out the list of services and amenities apartment communities can offer to people with pet on page 15 of your Rent & Retain Magazine.
Moral of the story:
Include pets in your resident
events.
Accept pets in your apartments.
Offer pet services.
