March & April Calendars
MARCH16th Spring Tune Up Your Car Day.
Ask a local mechanic to stop by and give instructions on how to change oil, check the water in the battery, change a flat tire, etc.
Or, ask a local gas station to give your residents a free checkup. They'll change/add oil, add brake fluid, clean the windshield, add windshield wiper fluid, etc. Many Mobil stations have this service already in place. Maybe a Mobil service technician can do it for your residents on-site?
Or, give out discount coupons to your local Econo Lube or Jiffy Lube. (These places always have special discounts. Don't be nervous about asking!)
Or, ask a local high school/boy scout troop/football team to wash cars in your community. Residents pay a donation to the kids for having their cars washed. Or, your community can donate money to the kids and have residents' cars washed for free. We've even heard of communities using their staff members to wash cars. How's that for service?
17th St. Patrick's Day.
Leapin Leprechans! Have a St. Patty's Day party! What about adding a Leprechaun Look A Like Contest?
Or, have an Irish Stew Cookoff. Serve soda bread and Irish Coffee. Paint the walkway to the party with washable green paint or sidewalk chalk leading to a pot of gold with a rainbow. Blarney and foolishness are part of the ingredients to a fun St. Patty's Day party.
The menu: Potato chips, shamrock cookies & cupcakes, lime sherbert and Irish Coffee. Play guess the weight of the Blarney Stone in the office. Spray paint a stone green, then take guesses in the office as to how much it weighs. Person closest to correct weight receives a prize.
Give out mini boxes of Lucky Charms.
Or, just wear green! Many party supply stores have cute stickers -- give one out to everyone who comes into your office.
18th Bike Tune Up Day.
Get those residents ready for springtime bike rides! Contact a local bike shop and have an expert set up shop giving tune-ups to residents bikes for a low price.
Or, if you have trails or great scenery nearby, host a guided bike tour to introduce great rides to your residents.
APRIL
Fourth Week --
National Playground Safety Week.
Every 2.5 minutes a child is hurt on a playground. Make sure yours is safe! Call 800-554-PLAY or visit www.uni.edu/playground for more information.
20th Sneeze Into Spring Day.
Spring allergies come with a vengeance around this time of year. Give out travel packs of Kleenex to residents and prospects. Buy them in bulk at warehouse grocery stores (Price Club, CostCo, etc.). Or ask your neighborhood grocery store to sell you the travel packs at cost.
"Spring Into Community Living."
Or, have an herbalist or nutritionist visit your community for tips on healthy eating to beat stress.
22nd Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
Talk to your employees and find out whether anyone will be bringing their kids in. Plan some fun activities today so they can enjoy themselves and parents can really have fun showing them what they do all day.
25th Earth Day.
Celebrate your Mother Earth! Today is the perfect day to start that new recycling program, install recycle-only trash cans around the community, pass out efficient light-bulbs, or switch to environmentally friendly products in your office and your apartments.
Or you could contact the local parks department and find out about hosting a nature walk through local parks and forests.
30th Arbor Day.
This one's easy! Ask a local nursery to donate a tree for your community. Take pictures as a favorite resident digs the first shovelful of dirt. A study by NASA showed that plants can reduce toxic air in offices by 87% in just 24 hours. Imagine what one TREE can do!
Why not donate a week's (...or day's ...or month's) proceeds from your laundry room or soda, candy and/or video machines to this project? You can probably buy 50 or more trees with the money.
Or, give out seed packets or little trees with your community's name on them.
